Shopify POS for Philippine Retail (Hybrid Stores)
Running a physical store and Shopify online store? The hybrid setup that unifies inventory, customers, and reporting — including the PH-specific gotchas (BIR receipt format, GCash QR).
Running a Shopify online store AND a physical retail location is one of the strongest moves in 2026. Customers buy in store, return online. Browse online, pick up in store. You finally know who your top customers are across both worlds.
But Shopify POS in the Philippines has gotchas. BIR receipt format, GCash QR integration, COD-to-pickup workflows — these aren't covered in Shopify's docs.

Shopify POS Lite vs POS Pro
POS Lite (free)
Best for: pop-up shops, occasional in-person sales.
POS Pro ($89/mo per location)
Adds:
Best for: any real retail location.
For most PH brands with a real shop, POS Pro is mandatory. The $89/month pays for itself in inventory accuracy alone.
Hardware setup
Recommended stack for a small PH retail location:
Total: ₱40,000–₱60,000 per register.
BIR-compliant receipts
This is the biggest gotcha. Shopify's default receipts don't meet BIR requirements.
You need:
1. BIR-registered Official Receipt (OR) booklet OR computerized accounting system permit.
2. Your BIR-issued OR series numbers.
3. Custom receipt template showing:

For most PH retailers, the manual hybrid approach works. Issue OR only when explicitly requested (most retail customers don't ask).
GCash and Maya in store
In-person GCash/Maya isn't natively integrated into Shopify POS for PH. Workarounds:
Option 1: Static QR code
Pros: zero integration cost.
Cons: manual reconciliation, easy to mismark or accept wrong amounts.
Option 2: PayMongo or Xendit dynamic QR
Pros: clean reconciliation, no manual error.
Cons: small per-transaction fee.
For any store doing 20+ GCash transactions a day, Option 2 saves hours of reconciliation.
Inventory management
Shopify POS syncs inventory in real-time across:
Setup:
1. Settings → Locations: add each physical store.
2. Per-product inventory: track per location.
3. Set "available for sale" rules per channel (some products may only sell online).
Stock-taking
Run a full stock count monthly. POS Pro lets you do this via the iPad — scan each item, mark count, system flags discrepancies.
Local pickup / Click-and-collect
Customers buy online, pick up in store. Hugely valuable for PH.
Setup:
1. Online Store → Settings → Shipping → Local Pickup → Enable per location.
2. Set pickup hours, prep time, and address.
3. Customer chooses "Pickup" at checkout, gets confirmation.
4. POS Pro shows pending pickups, mark as fulfilled when collected.
Add 5–10% to AOV through pickup-only promos.
Staff permissions and tracking
POS Pro lets you assign:
Track per-staff sales for commission or performance review.
Reporting
POS Pro reports:

Common PH retail gotchas
1. Receipt printer paper rolls: stock up, you run out fast. ₱30–₱60 per roll.
2. WiFi reliability: POS works offline-only for short windows; long outages = trouble. Have a 4G backup.
3. Power outages: UPS for register, especially in provincial locations.
4. Cash floats: keep ₱5,000–₱10,000 in change per shift.
5. End-of-day cash count: reconcile cash drawer to POS-reported cash sales daily.
